Today is Grow Your Blog Day and I will be visiting a lot of blogs that have signed up for the event. Thanks to Vicki at 2 Bags Full who organized this.
Take your time and have a look around, if you're into birds then I hope you will follow my blog as I share my birding experience. If you would be so kind as to leave me a comment so that I know you were here.
Very cold here lately, and we are getting a slow steady snow right now. Doesn't make for good birding weather.
I did take one drive to the water plant when I was in town. Nothing there but a bunch of ducks! lol! Well, what can I say except that there was nothing new.

These two books were from my Son-In-Law and grand kids for Christmas.
The Birds of North America has beautiful photos in it, and the Songbirds by Sally Roth is a wealth of information. Sally knows her birds and I would highly recommend this book. Lots of ideas you can do simply every day.
A few birds from my yard: Downy
Nuthatch
Starling
And look at this cute fella! HA HA I couldn't resist.
Happy Birding!

Our lake froze up so no more ducks here :( I have a Birds of North America book by Readers Digest that a lovely friend gave me. Yours looks nice with the photos, mine just has artist drawings of the birds. Do you have an Acorn tree? Is the doggie a chihuahua? I have a silly chi too, named Jack E. Cheez.
ReplyDeleteHi Terry, I am a fellow bird lover visiting from Vivki's blog party. My love of birds comes from a different angle - I am an illustrator and use birds a lot in my painting. I am curious where you are? Looks northerly from the pictures. I live in the Netherlands, where the waters are frozen now, too. All the birds huddling in small ice free holes, poor them!
ReplyDeleteI have a giveaway over on my blog of a small art print on wood, it's possible for me to make one with birds on it if you like :) Feel free to come and take a look.

Beautiful birdies! Love the pictures, I'm a great lover of bird and nature in general, and am currently building bird boxes and tables... which reminds me I must refresh the water today for them in the garden.

Popping by from Mystic Spirit for the GYOB party!

oh, i love birds, traveling, camping, kayaking, all sort of fun that the hubby & i can find to do around VA. glad to have found your blog. i'm a new follower of your blog. hope you will stop by my blog too. have a great weekend. take care. ( :
ReplyDeleteOn my task list today is "clean the birdfeeders"! I just wish I could come up with some kind of agreement with the squirrels, whereby they eat perhaps ONE feeder-full per day, and leave the rest for the feathered crew!
ReplyDeleteAnother GYOB participant, and yours is the first blog I have visited today :)
Popping in from GroBlo13 - your pictures are incredible, I can't even take a photo of an inanimate object! x x
ReplyDeleteoh, so glad I joined the hop so I could find you....I love birds so will be back! Pop by mine too...I have a giveaway you might like!
ReplyDeleteWe are getting a lot of birds in our tiny courtyard at the moment. The blackbirds are so brave (or desperate for food!) that they don't fly away when we go out of the front door. The cats sit and look at them through the window - but we don't let them out,so the birds are safe!
ReplyDeleteNice to meet you - we love birds at our home too but I sure don't know all their names like you do. I love your canning jar feeder.
ReplyDeleteWe have a lot of the same birds, except for starlings. I don't see them as often. The birds here have already begun scouting for nests. The chickadees and blue birds always try to build in the same spot. Last year the blue birds won. :o)
ReplyDeleteThanks for having us in to your blog. Love the pictures. Birding is on my list of things to do now that I am retired. I am in Florida now and there is a lot of beautiful birds in the area. I am just finding to many things to do now that I am not working.
ReplyDeleteThanks for growing your blog! It is fun to visit the variety of worlds out there! I enjoy our local birds, but spend more time on other things. Love your pictures!
ReplyDeleteI am so happy I found your blog through the Grow Your Blog party. At one time when I was out of work I took up birding. Now that I'm working again I don't get to do out as much, but I do maintain my feeders. I'm definitely going to follow your blog.
ReplyDeleteA fellow bird lover! I'm visiting from Grow Your Blog Party. Your pictures are wonderful! I got a new camera for Christmas, and hope to get more pictures to share of our feathered friends. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteOh I am a bird feeder as well. Right off my deck. One winter storm the snow was many feet deep. I kept the bird feeder filled. I sprinkled seed. The birds (must have been flocks of them), were there in mass. I kept a whole community of birds alive that winter. And they provided the such entertainment, color, diversity ... for me and my cats. Now I am hooked. I buy the expensive stuff from a bird store because my flock doesn't eat the cheap stuff.
ReplyDeleteDo you think I have started something??? :-)

What a lovely blog. I just love birds and it's so nice to see the pictures of the ones visiting you.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet blog about birds. I'd like to attract more birds to my yard because I think it is great for kids to watch birds.
ReplyDeleteHi Terry, I'm visiting from the GYBP and really love all your bird photographs.
ReplyDeleteGlad I found you so I can visit again.
Hi Terry,
ReplyDeleteI'm coming from GYBP and am so glad I found you. Wow. You have about as much snow as we do (I'm just outside Houghton in the UP). I'm following. Can't wait to come back and read about your home-made bird treats. Hope you're enjoying winter.
~Diane
Just found your through the blog party and I can't wait to look through all your pictures and get to know you! I'm a new follower. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteHi it's very nice to meet you.
ReplyDeleteNicole/Beadwright
What a lovely site- am now following ! found you in the GYBP!
ReplyDeleteChristina
Hi Terry! I actually stopped by via J's blog "What Happens at Grandmas". I had to come visit because I grew up in Michigan. I now live in Southern California and while I do NOT miss snow at all -- I miss some of the special flowers (lilacs, tulips, etc.) and the birds! I used to love to watch the cardinals and the blue jays and certainly the robins -- none of which we have here so I will certainly be back! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteHello Terry, I am a new visitor from Vicki's Grow Your blog Party. I am from Western Michigan and I also love birding and gardening along with stitching, crocheting and many other crafty things. I especially enjoyed seeing your canning jar bird feeder. I have never seen one like that before. I live in Western Michigan along Lake Michigan south of Ludington. Nice chatting with you. Hugs Judy
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your blog and will be returning in the future. I'm glad you joined in the party. ~Elizabeth
ReplyDeleteI live in Hull and looked out of the office window on monday to see a greater Spotted Woodpecker, (female I now know, having looked it up!) hammering away on a tree. She was back the next day too.
ReplyDeleteNot only had I never seen one in real life, we'd never seen one on site before either!
What a privaledge!
Nice to pop in and look around.....all the best, Lyn
LOVE birds - wish we had more interesting ones here in the desert (the roadrunners are fun, though). Happy Saturday, Terry - Tanya
ReplyDeleteIt is ironic that I am reading your post right now because the birds in my yard are tweeting a spectacular symphony. We just came back from our morning walk on the beach and got a kick out of the little birds digging for clams. The bigger birds were being lazy and trying to steal the bounty of the little ones.
ReplyDeleteI'll be back for more bird pics.
I love the birdies...great blog! I am now a follower along the way of the Grow Your Blog Party! This morning I had some beautiful red-headed woodpeckers at my feeders. Sweet! And last night when we came home, an owl greeted us in the very tall trees at the end of our driveway! It gave us a good feeling. The ever watchful owls! Have fun blog partyin'...
ReplyDeleteLove all the birds, and wish I could watch them everyday, but they don't come around much to where I live.. City life, and wishing for a life in the country.. But whenever I get the chance I love to feed the ducks; geese too, but they're a little scary sometimes!... Nice to meet you, via Grow Your Blog, and hope you're enjoying your weekend! ~tina
ReplyDeleteHi Terry, I am visiting from the party and have signed up as a follower. We have just moved from Alberta to British Columbia and and trying to catch up with all the new birds we are seeing. My Calgary friends tell us birds are returning earlier this year (or maybe haven't left at all). birds are a good indicator of the state of the world, I think. I hope you will have time to pop over to my blog.
ReplyDeleteVisiting you from the GYB party. Great photos of birds, and of course the posing furbaby.
ReplyDeleteLove your photos! Nice to meet you:-)
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Terri
Hahaha, the puppy looks grumpy at having to sit still for the photo shoot ;-) I wish I could get an up close picture of the tiny little birds that flit around our deck here in Alaska. I can't quite make out what they are, even thought my mother gave us a bird identifying book.
ReplyDeleteStopping by from the blog party Kay's Little Korner
Hello Terry, It is nice to "meet" you. I have stopped by all 3 of your blogs, and they are all wonderful! I can't imagine having three! btw I followed all of them! lol! You are the very first blogger I have met who mentions being a rock collector! Me too! Since I was a kid. Still love rocks of all sorts. I also love to watch the birds. We have a great feeder outside my hubbies office window and we see many interesting birds. Most repeats and seasonal, with a few new ones now and then. So fun!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Terri

Hi Terry...great blog! Love all the bird pictures. Before moving to our current home, we lived in the country and had many feeders, and birds too many to count at times.
ReplyDeleteYour blog is a delight to read and love looking at the birds.
ReplyDeleteCute blog, Terry! I really love bird-watching, too - although it was better where I used to live in Wisconsin then here in Michigan.
ReplyDeleteLoved seeing your precious pup in that last photo...I have 3 of them, seen on my Banner. Hope you'll stop by my blog. http://thecomfortofasafeplace.blogspot.com/
I'm also your newest Follower!

ReplyDeleteEvalina, This and that...
Hi Terri, I loved seeing your birds and your dog. I think one of my favorite is the Cardinal. At the nursing home where my hubby is they have finches. They are fun to watch. Have a wonderful time at the party. A New Missouri Friend.
ReplyDeleteHi Terri,
ReplyDeleteI just found your blog as a result of this event. I live in central California so probably have some different birds, but I am sure I can get some ideas for encouraging birds to our property.
We are planting some trees and shrubs (mostly native) on the bare lower part of our lot. I made sure to include some that will have berries for the birds.
I'm looking forward to getting to know you better!
Blogging truly has opened my eyes to my surroundings. I love bird watching now, but we certainly don't have as many varieties here as you do. Sending warm wishes your way, Tammy
ReplyDeleteP.S. Your doggy is very cute, too. :)
ReplyDeleteDid I get that someone likes birds? :-)) Lovely. I came here from Vicki's party, still going strong. Do stop by my blog too and enter the giveaway. See you there.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful beautiful bird photos and your last photo is very special. B

Birds are pretty but the fellow is cuddly; he wins my heart! Visiting via Vicki's GYB Party.
ReplyDeleteHello Terry,
ReplyDeleteI'm here from the GYB party and loving your delightful post.
I adore birds and always feed, photograph and appreciate them no matter where I live.
I have quite a few posts which include birds so I hope you might like to visit me over here in Australia.
Sorry Beth I'm now your newest follower.
I look forward to visiting again soon. ;D
Neesie ♥
I am a bird feeder as well, and am your newest follower!
ReplyDeleteCame over from GYB, and invite you to come see The Pink Geranium!
Jan
..nice to read about your blog.. and to see your adorable doggie.. i also have one LOL ty... mitz_zee@yahoodotcom
ReplyDeleteawww ... nice blog! I've thought about taking up birding. We have a feeder, but the squirrels take it all. I'm amazed how acrobatic squirrels can be. And we have a pair of cardinals nearby. The male cardinal keeps attacking our living room window! Now the female, she's smart! May not be as showy, but definitely got the better share of bird brains of the pair. ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for stopping by! I think a terrarium might be a very good choice if you have low-light problems. I tried a lot of plants in the past, varying light conditions, and there's always something good to grow. Even a few nice blooming plants. Having an aquarium light should be interesting.
ReplyDeleteLove your bird pictures! A lot of birds come to FL for the winter and there are a ton of birding places, including the famous "Ding" Darling park on Sanibel. If you haven't been there, you'd love it!
Stopping in after visiting the blog2 Bags Full, it was your title that grab my attention. I am a bird lover and thought it would be nice meet another blogger that seems to love birds. I enjoyed this post and I have become your latest follower. Happy Birding!
